Day One... Getting there...

The long and the short of the long journey to Santo Domingo by Natalie Crncich….

And so the journey begins..On an early 6am Saturday morning, our team of 11 volunteers from in and around London set out to Detroit airport for our first flight of two to reach the Dominican Republic. The first flight flew by, yet not much sleep was had in the hour and a half. Upon arrival in Philly, the team grabbed a spot for the next 5 hours while we awaited the flight to Dominican. And oh what a wait! Cards, sleeping, Sudoku and chatting seemed to pass the time as quick as could have been expected. Finally we boarded flight 1065 on our way! The four hour flight included some snacks, sleeping, more chatting and more Sudoku. 10pm…Destination reached – Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic!!
At the airport, the team met up with Yvonne, the Dominican Republic rep for the Habitat Build. We all loaded into the largest, tightest van we’ve been in…all 13 of us…including Dennis, our new friend and driver. A short 10-15 minutes later and after some great scenery, we reached the Hotel Mercure. (we noticed a wild dog guarding the hotel.) We know from Michelle’s stories not to pet the dogs here, or we will end up home…haha! On our way to the hotel we drove by a bunch of outdoor parties that many of us wanted to join in on, dancing in the streets and having a beer…a Saturday night in the Santo Domingo!! Can’t wait for the rest of the week!!

  2. Happy to see you got there ok! I'm sure you all made the locals very happy joining them dancing. I'm sure it didn't take any convincing on their part to get you swingers up on the dance floor! I'll check in later!

    Take Care
